Summer in New York City Adventure

Published: March 29th, 2019

Summer in New York City is always an exciting time of year, filled with adventure at every street corner. Wake up and head straight for a filling breakfast in Rick’s Café at the Casablanca Hotel.

After that, you’ll be ready to head out with the family on your NYC adventure.

Outdoor Activities

Stop by the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. A museum located directly on the former aircraft carrier, take guided tours or wander the vessel and learn everything to do with ships, space and so much more. It is also home to the Concorde, at one point the fastest commercial plane in the world. For the thrill seeker in the family, don’t miss the G-Force Encounter ride, as you will experience the sensation of flying a supersonic jet plane.

Walk just down the pier, as more adventure awaits you. Set the pace for your day on THE BEAST, a high energy speedboat ride located on the Hudson River just 15 minutes away from the Casablanca Hotel. Enjoy scenic views of New York while bouncing off the water at 45 mph. This trip is not for the faint of heart, but the much calmer Circle Line Tour is located at the same location (Pier 83).

For those who wish to enjoy the water on their own, the Brooklyn Boathouse Kayaking on the River is a go-to attraction. Located just across the East River at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse on the Pier 2 floating dock, children and adults alike can go out and explore the wonders of New York for free. This is extremely popular and is available on a first come first served basis so it’s important to get your energy pumping with an early breakfast at Rick’s Café before going out and taking on the day.

For those that love the water but are looking for something a bit more relaxing, swing by the Central Park Boathouse where you can take a rowboat out on the water or you can book a personal Gondola tour.

Also located in Central Park is R/C Sail boating. Recreate the thrills of Stuart Little boat races or relax as the light summer breeze carries your miniature sailboat across the water. True boating enthusiasts are allowed to bring their own to race in the water. All families will be able to appreciate the beautiful Alice in Wonderland statue located just steps away.

Indoor Activities

While summer is a time for being outside, the weather can be out of your control. For the days where it the rain gets you down, be sure to check out the Museum of the Moving Image. Enjoy this fun indoor alternative suitable for all ages and learn about Jim Henson and his inspirational, celebrational, muppetational Muppets while diving into the history of film and television.

If you want something a bit more competitive, located just a few blocks away from the Hotel Giraffe is Modern Pinball NYC.  Spend hours at this nostalgic arcade trying to beat one another’s high scores on classics like Star Wars and Addams Family Pinball, or try your hand at favorites like Pac-Man, Galaga and Street Fighter.

If you’re trying to move the family out from the past and into the future, VR World is an incredible attraction. Immerse yourself in new and exciting worlds where you can take down some of Rocky Balboa’s toughest opponents, walk on a high wire across NYC skyscrapers, or take the wheel as a professional racecar driver. Most importantly, whatever experience you put yourself in is sure to take you to new worlds.

At the end of the day after your countless hours of fun, be sure to stop by Rick’s Café for our daily Wine & Cheese reception in the afternoon. All of these activities and more can be accomplished when booking our Summer in the City package.  It’s time to explore all New York City has to offer now!
