Summer Sailing in Manhattan

Published: June 10th, 2014

Did you know that embarking on a cruise around Manhattan is one of the most popular forms of sightseeing in New York City?  As the concierges of the Library Hotel Collection, we love recommending this to our guests because it’s affordable, and suitable for all ages and occasions.

Imagine a cool breeze flowing through your hair, a setting sun enveloping the Manhattan skyline with a golden hue, a chilled glass of champagne in one hand, and in the other, the warm embrace of someone you love. What could be more romantic?

As concierges, we have the wonderful obligation to explore the city from every angle. We found that a romantic sail around Manhattan, particularly during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset, is truly extraordinary! Visitors have numerous companies to choose from, but we had the great pleasure of setting sail from the newly restored sailing boat, Clipper City, built prior to the Civil War. Feel free to choose one of their other voyages to create your quintessential romantic excursion such as the Champagne Brunch Sail, Daytime Statue Sails, Wine Tasting Sail or even the Midnight Sail.

Other companies of note are the Bateaux and Spirit Cruises which specialize in voyages inclusive of Brunch, Lunch or Dinner, as well as, corporate events. If you’re interested in smaller charters for events like birthdays, holiday parties, etc, the Freedom of NY Cruises is a good option as well.  However, the best was saved for last, and guess what… It’s FREE! The Staten Island Ferry is a passenger ferry that runs 24 hours a day, and transports New Yorkers between Manhattan and Staten Island. During the course of the 25-minute voyage, you’ll see precious views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

Bon Voyage!
