Published: December 14th, 2018

That magical time of the year is around the corner again, Christmas and New Years Eve in New York. Along with buying presents and marveling at the decorations everywhere, it’s almost time for sparklers to go off at midnight. What better way to ring in another year than being in New York, the city of bright lights and excitement?  It’s never too early to start planning since there are many options to choose from. Among the nightlife capital of the world narrowing it down isn’t quite easy.  In an attempt to do so and be prepared for festivities here are a few ways to experience the countdown.

celebration is well known and always well attended but it isn’t for the faint of heart. New Years Eve in Times Square requires determination to stay in the cold and show up early enough to get a good spot to enjoy it with a decent view. It is advised to arrive before noon on the31st. However, some people show up as early as 6 a.m. If you can’t make it that early, enter from the north to avoid the dense crowd.  You might still be able to squeeze your way in. The best place to stand is the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue. It’s important to remember that warm clothes and staying hydrated are crucial ingredients in attending the Ball drop. Good luck!

Although it can be expensive it is a guaranteed memorable experience with amazing views of the skyline and the fireworks.  There are many cruise lines to choose from.  You can go elegant with formal attire or casual booze cruise.  There are even family friendly cruises that sail around the NY Harbor. Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises operates tours from its base at Pier 83 in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood

Many restaurants offer special menus designed specifically for New Year’s Eve and some offer entertainment as well, as the Great Gatsby-themed party at CATCH. ROOFTOP BAR might be some people’s cup of tea, such as PHD Midtown Terrace with excellent views of Times Square. For a more casual affair finding a good spot for drinks at midnight would be perfect. Lillie’s Victorian is a hidden gem for the Holidays, beautifully decorated with amazing cocktails.

CONCERTS

like the classic New York Philharmonic’s performance at Lincoln Center are an annual tradition appealing to a more sophisticated crowd. The New York Philharmonic Gala

at Lincoln Center is aired live on PBS on New Year’s Eve, but you can also experience it in person at Avery Fisher Hall by booking tickets far in advance, because these tickets sell out super fast, so you’ll want to act quickly if you want to add this to your New Year’s Eve NYC itinerary.

could be an option for the fitness conscious. There is the annual New York Runners’ four-mile Midnight marathon in Central Park. If you are looking for an alternative and some what challenging way to celebrate, the night commences at 10:00 pm with music and dancing, followed by the kickoff right at midnight with hundreds of other runners.
