Where to get the best burger in The Big Apple

Published: April 10th, 2015

New York City is a foodie’s paradise!  Whether you’re craving authentic foreign cuisine or something closer to home, this is the place for you.  For me, close to home means a yummy mouthwatering burger.  David, the Reservations Manager at Hotel Giraffe, happens to agree!  David was born and raised in The Big Apple and he was kind enough to share his favorite places for an American Classic.

Spotted Pig: For a bistro-style burger at an NYC hotspot.

This famous rustic American bistro located in the West Village hosts a wide range of food, but my number one pick is the Roquefort cheese char grilled burger. This gourmet burger is crafted in an artisanal style, bringing the finest French tastes and cooking to an American classic. This heavenly treat will please any burger fanatic looking to fulfill their craving.

Insider tip: be sure to try the freshly made shoestring French fries!  www.thespottedpig.com

Shake Shack: For the neighborhood favorite that spread across the nation.

The line may be long but it’s worth the wait. This burger is stacked high with only the freshest ingredients and topped with their famous ShakeSauce, making any burger fan’s taste buds tingling. They have multiple locations throughout the city, so you can visit them wherever you are. And as we’ve mentioned previously, you can get an excellent meal for two for under $30! And vegetarians need not worry; their Shroom Burger with a crisp-fried Portobello mushroom is just as delicious!

Insider tip: If you visit the original location at Madison Square Park(to reopen in May), you can monitor the line by visiting their website and watching the ShackCam! www.shakeshack.com

Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridian: For a homemade burger in a secret location.

This hidden gem is the place to go if you are looking for a bite after 5th avenue shopping and a walk through Central Park. Everything you get from the small counter is presented in a Picasso style work of art, where the ingredients are shuffled like a deck of cards. And just like a Picasso painting these burgers have people lining up for more.

The Corner Bistro: For a burger with history.

With its trademark neon sign, this old-timey burger sanctuary gives both beer drinkers and burger lovers a place to relax. Head downtown and grab a pint of beer and 8 oz burger that is stacked just as high with crispy curled bacon and gooey melted American cheese. This small kitchen has been dishing this American classic since the 60’s and has no means of stopping.

Insider tip: If you’re feeling adventurous, check out adding some of their homemade ground beef and beans chili to the top of this burger tower. www.cornerbistrony.com

Minetta Tavern: For a burger that combines it all.

Lavern located on Macdougal Street just below Washington Square Park, this restaurant has a burger that is made with tender loving care. It’s made from only the finest prime aged beef drizzled in butter and grape seed oil topped with perfectly melted cheddar cheese with a halo of caramelized onions on top, and finally held together by one of the best burger buns created; the buttered brioche bun.
