Liz Cleland is the Chief Executive Officer and owner of Western New Yorker. She uses this website to express herself and have readers take a look into her lifestyle as she aims to encourage others to enjoy life and family. On her small trip to New York City with her lovely family, they stayed at the Library Hotel. In her article, Weekend in NYC, Liz shares her wonderful experience with us. For today’s #TravelTuesday, join our conversation with Liz about her recent stay.
Library Hotel Collection: Tell us about yourself, how did your passion for travel and hotels begin?
Liz Cleland: I became a writer while I was teaching finance classes and people were interested in hearing about my life. My love of travel and hotels filters into my work as I explore the world via my trips!
LHC: How often do you travel and how long have you been an active travel influencer?
LC: I travel several times a month for both recreation and for my work. I have been doing this for around 5 years in total!
LHC: How did you hear about our hotels and why did you choose to stay with us?
LC: A friend of mine recommended a stay because she also enjoys love of books and reading. It was also centrally located near work and Bryant Park which I wanted to take my son to on that particular trip!
LHC: From your experience in our hotels, what makes the experience with us unique?
LC: While I feel the love of reading is unique, your hotels capture the love of it with sophistication and luxury. The Library hotel offers so many delicacies that sets you far above the competition. A few to mention: the food and drink club room, chocolate turn down with wonderful quotes, and books! So many wonderful books!
LHC: What will you remember most about your stay?
LC: We LOVED the bath tub! I love the vintage inspired modern claw tub. It was perfect for relaxing and unwinding after walking in the city all day.
LHC: Was there anything in our city that surprised you?
LC: New York has always been known for fast-paced and almost stuffy attitudes but the hotel staff presented the exact opposite of that. The entire team was gracious, helpful, and truly loved what they were doing. This created a wonderful experience for my family.
LHC: Did you experience any favorite restaurants during your stay?
LC: My favorite restaurant this time around was a place called Bread & Tulips. It was a very upscale place that truly captured the New York City lifestyle! One must try the appetizers!
LHC: Why did you choose to visit our city?
LC: This trip was both for work and recreation!
LHC: Was there anything you recommend as a nearby “must see” for our guests?
LC: Explore Park Avenue and also Broadway Avenue.
LHC: What would you recommend someone do to prepare for a trip to our city?
LC: Pack light. The city has a lot of traffic and walking. Also bring warm clothing, New York runs on the cold side!
LHC: What would you recommend to travelers that they must pack for a trip to our city?
LC: Purchase a laminated city map to help you get around.
LHC: What’s next on your Travel Bucket List?
LC: Personally, I would love to travel internationally!

New York City can be a whirlwind of excitement and the Library Hotel Collection is here to make the best of your trip! Here are our top 5 Do’s and Don’ts of New York City.
Pedicabs can be fun at the right time of day. If you like to try a Pedicab we recommend, experiencing a Pedicab as a booked-in-advance tour in Central Park. Central Park Discovery offers 1-hour tours starting at $60. Alternatively, if you decide to hail one on the streets of NYC hail one during the off-peak hours. Pedicabs charge per minute and prices vary from $3-$7 per minute which can add up during peak hours.
During your visit, it’s a must to experience the city like a true New Yorker. Hop on the Subway or even better, if the weather is pleasant, enjoy a walk and take in the city! Most importantly, make sure you wear very comfortable shoes.
You know what else is fun? Taking a yellow taxi! Before you leave your ride, make sure you have all your belongings. Unfortunately, a lot of times items get left behind but one thing can reunite you with your lost item. Get your receipt before you head out of the cab! This will help you when filing a report by calling 311 or going to www.yellowcabnyctaxi.com.
If there’s a must do restaurant on your list, (high-end /5 star), make sure to book in advance! Most NYC restaurants start taking reservations 30 days prior to seating. So don’t procrastinate and contact our concierge team to reserve your special evening!
If you see something, say something! That’s the MTA golden rule as well as the Library Hotel Collection 😉 We love to be your home away from home so we want to ensure you are absolutely comfortable. That means if there’s ever anything you wish you had to make your stay even better give us a chance. Even if you do not think there is something we are able to do, bring it to our attention immediately and we will do our best ensure your stay is memorable.
Don’t confine yourself to Manhattan! New York City is made up of four other boroughs: Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Each borough is unique in its own way:
- In the Bronx, some of NYC’s biggest attractions are the Yankee Stadium and the Bronx Zoo These two attractions can be seen in a quick day trip, and the best thing, all of our sister properties are conveniently located near a subway that takes you there.
- In Queens, the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadow Park, where the US Open begins end of August and continues through mid-September. Also nearby, you will find a lot of great activities such as the New York Hall of Science, Queens Museum, Citi Field Stadium, and the Queens Zoo. Finally, don’t miss the MoMA P.S.1 and the waterfront view from Long Island City offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.
- Brooklyn Botanical Garden, a 52-acre garden located in the Prospect Park neighborhood, offers a number of plant collections and gardens such as the Japanese and the Cranford Rose Garden. Of course, the Brooklyn Bridge Park where you get to see stunning views of the NYC Downtown plus great places to eat.
- Last but not least, Staten Island is filled with historical landmarks such as Richmond Town, Alice Austen House, and the Conference House. Take the free ferry and you can also get a wonderful view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. In the near future, Staten Island will have a newly redesigned waterfront with the redeveloped NY Wheel (the largest observation wheel in the World), a premium outlet mall with 100 stores, and a 6-acre green roof which will welcome concerts, festivals.
There is so much to see and do in NYC; the Library Hotel Collection Concierge team would love to help you plan your stay! We hope to welcome you in the near future!
